About The Institute

If you would like to study at the University of Surrey, and you do not meet the requirements for direct entry, you can take the International Foundation Year at the International Study Centre, which will aim to provide you with the skills and knowledge to succeed in your degree.

Preparing for university is one of the most important things any student has to do. Making sure you have the academic and language skills you need to succeed will make your transition to university life a lot easier. The International Study Centre at the University of Surrey teaches you these skills as well as ways to enjoy living and studying in the UK.

From the day you start your programme at the International Study Centre, you are part of the university. You will study and learn, and have access to university facilities such as the Library & Learning Centre, Surrey Sports Park and the Students' Union.

Being an international student means you are part of a wide community of different nationalities. At the International Study Centre we know how to help you adjust to your new environment and make the most of your time in the UK.

Programmes at the International Study Centre are taught by specialists in university preparation. Your progress will be monitored at all times to make sure you remain on track to successfully complete the programme, while encouraging you to develop throughout your time with us

The International Study Centre introduces you to the style of teaching that you will experience during your degree. Taking part in tutorials, seminar-style classes and larger group lectures means you'll be well prepared.

After starting the International Foundation you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place. You will be helped to nominate the degree programme which you want to progress onto soon after you join. Once you complete the programme and achieve the required grades, you can enter the first year of your chosen undergraduate degree at the University. The required academic progression grade will depend on your chosen degree course.

In addition to meeting the academic progression criteria, you will also be required to take an IELTS test and obtain 6.5 with minimum of 6.0 in all components in order to progress to a degree at the University of Surrey. Costs will be covered by yourself and paid directly to the IELTS Test Centre.

The International Study Centre is located in the heart of the Surrey campus. Close to accommodation and facilities, you are only 15 minutes from the Guildford train station bringing you straight into central London in less than 40 minutes.
