Test acceptable for level A1

Spouse visa applicants located outside the UK must take a SELT with one of the following testing providers:

LanguageCert International ESOL SELT A1 Speaking & Listening

It is a 2-skills (speaking and listening) exam in English, aligned to the A1 level of the CEFR*. It is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) delivered through LanguageCert’s global network of SELT centers.

This test should not exceed 18 minutes

You will be assessed on your ability in four key areas:
1- Obtaining information
2- Conveying information
3- Speaking to communicate
4- Engaging in discussion
At times during the test, you will be allowed to take notes to prepare your answers. The examiner will not mark your notes – only your speaking and listening skills are marked during the test.

Test results are normally available within 7 days of your test.

You will get one of two results: Pass & Fail
